This La Jolla wedding just happened to occur during our only rain storm in the past 12 months. We knew coming in that there was a good chance of heavy rain so before the wedding even began I offered a “re-do” on the portrait session. And sure enough – during our first portrait session, the light rain turned into epic wind/rain. So with everyone up for the second shoot I was thrilled to be able to go back to Del Mar and spend an awesome hour long session getting some beautiful images to add to the existing collection.

Del Mar Wedding – Seagrove Park
San Diego WeddingsJessica and Chad :: Tom Ham’s Lighthouse
San Diego Weddings, UncategorizedSmall is beautiful – and this amazing little wedding took place at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse on Harbor Island in San Diego. After getting ready at the Hilton I walked to the wedding venue (Loved that part!!) to wait for the bride. Tom Ham’s has gone through some significant renovations in the past year and I absolutely loved the new layout with bright interior rooms and a new ceremony site out front. As for the wedding itself – rarely have I seen more smiles at ANY event before… I love these guys!!
Lao Wedding – San Diego
San Diego WeddingsI’m a huge fan of variety in weddings – so when I was told of a Laos ceremony in the morning followed by a more “western” ceremony in the afternoon I was very excited. Laos is a small country sitting between Thailand and Vietnam, and from what I understand there are a lot of similarities between traditional Thai weddings and traditional Lao weddings. This was my first Lao wedding so I did not have a basis for comparison, but it was full of fascinating traditions (including a bribe to the parents of the bride…) and it had an absolutely elegant traditional wardrobe and styling. I decided that this wedding would be a really cool set of pictures to put in a slideshow so here it is.

The afternoon ceremony took place at Island Palms in San Diego
La Jolla Elopement
San Diego WeddingsTo elope, most literally, merely means to run away and to not come back to the point of origination. Some people think that elopements are not romantic and not special – but I would have to strongly disagree with that opinion. This incredibly romantic wedding on the shores of La Jolla had only one witness (me) and the whole experience was pure joy.
The advantage of this being an elopement is that we were not tied to plans or a timetable. Being the 4th of July we were all worried about getting in and around La Jolla so I arrived an hour and a half early, which by coincidence was EXACTLY when the happy couple arrived. Rather than get married first do pictures second, we decided to get started on the pictures right away. And as we were walking and shooting (and getting hotter-and-hotter) somebody came up with the brilliant idea of jumping in the ocean right after the wedding.
The ceremony was performed by Rev Christopher Tuttle from http://www.elopetosandiego.com/
Shelby visits San Diego
San Diego Family PhotographyA couple of years ago I had the pleasure of photographing a really nice beach wedding in Mission Bay for Brian and Heather so I was thrilled when they told me they were coming to town with an adorable new bundle in tow. I met up with them this morning for some quiet beach time before the crowds picked up – and Baby Shelby was (almost) perfect :). Everyone insisted it was OK to get some pictures at the rare moments when she got fussy so I was sure to include one here!!
La Jolla Engagement Photos
EngagementsI almost always get to do some location scouting – even if it is just a google search for other photographs or a street view. But heading into this engagement photo session I was flying completely blind. We were meeting in the middle of an upscale neighborhood in La Jolla near a small trail that accessed the ocean (at low tide). The funny thing about last Saturday is that the tide was high and so was the surf. We ended up on just a small cliff about 30 feet above the water, and with the high surf I still managed to got soaked in the first 10 minutes of being on location. Still, the conditions were great for taking pictures and these guys were super photogenic. And not only did the beach location work out well… I may have discovered my favorite stair case in San Diego only about 200 yards from our beach trail.
Breakers Beach Wedding – Coronado Island
San Diego Weddings
North Island Air Station on Coronado is a spectacular location for a wedding. The beach is enormous and the new hotel is comfortable and elegant. On top of that Freya and Justin are an amazing couple who can’t seem to take a bad photo if they tried. Both Jon and Chris of SD Photo Studio were very excited to be a part of this amazing day.
Crystal Pier Engagement
EngagementsI met Ben and Christina at 8AM on Sunday down at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. Of course the first thing I had to do when we met up was apologize for being a bit wiped out – I never would have guessed that the wedding I shot in Laguna Beach the night before was going to be 100+ degrees – and it really took a lot out of me. But Ben and Christina are a super chill couple and the whole theme of the shoot was a low-key “lifestyle” shoot so I like to think that my fatigue helped contribute to the final look in a positive way… haha – at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it
Wedding In Ocean Beach
San Diego WeddingsChris and Jon were at it again last weekend in Ocean Beach. We don’t get to team up together for every wedding – but when we do we always have a blast working together. This wedding took place in the courtyard at the Ocean Beach Hotel which is immediately adjacent to the Ocean Beach Pier. The sky on this particular day was a photographers dream come true – with a mix of light overcast and some awesome cloud formations.
